UREI 1620LE ROTARY CLUB DJ MIXER - LIMITED EDITION

UREI 1620LE ROTARY CLUB DJ MIXER - LIMITED EDITION

PRESS RELEASE:
Mixing console maker Soundcraft has reintroduced the UREI name on a range of DJ mixers designed for both the traditional house market and turntablist performance sector.

The UREI legend was born in the 1970s with the 1620, a rotary-based mixer for the house mixing sector, initially establishing its reputation for great sound and smooth control on the New York scene, at the heart of the control center that was Larry Levan's DJ booth at The Paradise Garage.

First out of the new stable is an updated version, the limited edition UREI 1620LE. Tempting though it was to totally re-engineer this classic mixer, Soundcraft has remained loyal to the original circuits and traditional components that delivered the UREI sound, while engineering for enhanced reliability. Only slight modifications to the circuit layout have been made in order to further minimize noise with no detriment to the sound. With all the sonic qualities retained, users of the new mixer will also experience the reassuringly positive and authentic rotary feel of the 1620, while the panel layout remains as inspiring and intuitive today as it was in the 1970s. All this gives the DJ unrivalled control in the mix.

Features of the 1620LE include six input channels--two phono and four aux inputs (three line and one mic, each with phono options available)--headphone monitoring of any input, House and Booth master output volume controls, and two-band EQ on the output. Furthermore, the unit has been given gold-plated connectors on the rear.

For the Hip-Hop & Scratch DJ, the new 1601 and 1601S are two-channel digital mixers.

Designed with the hip-hop DJ in mind, sporting a clear battle area around the faders, the 1601 features selectable line or phono inputs and three-band EQ on each channel, high-pass filters for removing turntable rumble or stage noise, an FX send and return loop with selectable signal feed locations, and an independent mic/line input with two-band EQ. Each input fader has selectable response curves, as does the cross-fader. The headphone outputs (both 1/4-inch and mini-jack connectors are provided) have an EQ control that allows the DJ to tune the phones to his own ears. Two independent sets of dual 10-segment LED meters show the input and output levels. Outputs are on both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA-phono connectors. A specially designed Exciter section has a variable frequency control, and a mix control to allow the excited program to be added to the main mix. The 1601 is powered by an integral universal voltage power supply.

The 1601S is a true multi-genre mixer, expanding its use to cover house, techno, breaks, drum & bass, R&B and more. It is identical to the 1601, but has the added feature of a high-performance, two-bank, 32-beat, 96kHz/24-bit auto-looping sampler with one-shot and reverse functions. The playback from either sample bank is assignable to channel one and/or channel two. A BPM lock indicator shows that the BPM engine is ready to sample, and a footswitch connector allows control while the DJ's hands remain focused on creating the mix.

To aid in field servicing, the input faders, cross-fader, CF monitor fader, sampler controls, input select switches and EQ pots on the 1601 Series are all user-replaceable.

After careful consideration, highly respected mixing technology specialist Soundcraft has re-created the 1620 for the 21st Century. Remaining faithful to every detail of the original design, a limited edition of new 1620LEs enables a new generation of DJs to enjoy the unique sound, feel and facilities of this legendary mixer.

Louie Vega used the new UREI 1620LE at Soul Heaven on January 29th 2005. The first Dj to use the new 1620 LE re-make of the classic 1620 rotary mixer! No other mixer sounds as good as the 1620 which became popular in the New York club scene during late 1970's. Frequently used in many of the ground breaking and influential clubs of the time such as Paradise Garage its high quality components complement dance music perfectly. It is only fitting therefore that Little Louie Vega from Masters at work was the man with the privilige of being the first Dj to use the new 1620LE while performing live in London.

Becoming the owner of a new Urei by Soundcraft 1620LE means you own a piece of DJ history – using the most up to date engineering technology Soundcraft deliver the Classic 1620 with the most awesome audio characteristics for today’s demanding DJ. UREI is a classic pro audio name and has been a member of the Harman group since the early 80’s. The UREI 1620 DJ mixer, originally
produced in the 1970’s, reached cult status and played a major part in shaping today’s international club scene. Famed for its unique sound it was regularly selected as the ‘mixer of choice’ by most of the top clubs and installers including the renowned Richard Long. Richard Long was famous for designing and installing large nightclub systems in the 70’s including Paradise Garage, Xenon, Regines, Hippopotamus, 12 West and Studio 54. Until today opportunities to buy the UREI 1620 have been rare and when second-hand units do become available they change hands for a premium as DJ aficionados seek to obtain their own piece of history and bathe in the mystique that the unique ‘1620 sound’ is famous for. Such is the popularity of the UREI 1620 it’s become the influence for countless products from many manufacturers around the world - it’s been copied but never truly reproduced – until now.

Soundcraft, the world-leading mixer specialist and part of the Harman Pro Group, has re-launched the UREI series led by the UREI 1620LE, a limited edition version of the classic 1620. The new unit retains its legendary performance and has been brought bang up to date with modern manufacturing techniques, components and materials. Soundcraft has caringly followed the ethos of the original electronic design and used its 30 years design and engineering expertise to deliver an even better sounding mixer that has to be heard to be believed. Trials at high-end nightclubs with some of the most renowned masters of club sound have demonstrated that not only the extraordinary sound quality of the original 1620 has been retained – it’s been improved. Now you can enjoy your own piece of DJ history, and help create the future.

The UREI Model 1620LE Music Mixer is a multi-input stereo mixer which has been optimized for the heavy demands of fixed and mobile sound installations. The outstanding features and reliability of the Model 1620LE make it useful where high quality is essential. The Model 1620LE has six input positions, each with a level control and a balance control. In addition, the input positions labeled AUX 1 – AUX 4 have input source selector switches, allowing any of these four positions to control any of five auxiliary inputs (AUX A – E) or the output of an optional internal preamplifier associated with that input position only. AUX 4 input is supplied with a microphone preamplifier card, Part No. 1620-MC, and the selector switch position is labeled MIC. If no preamplifier card is installed in input positions AUX 1, AUX 2 or AUX 3, the preamplifier input may be used with a line level source. The output circuits of the Model 1620LE are quite versatile. Separate outputs for house and booth amplifiers are provided, each with its own level control; the house output is transformer-isolated, so that remote amplifiers may be fed with minimum likelihood of grounding problems or noise pickup in the interconnecting lines. A separate headphone circuit has its own selector switch, allowing its source to come from any of the six input controls (pre-fader) or from the program output; its level control feeds an internal headphone amplifier and front panel stereo 6.3mm (1/4 in) phone jack. For convenience in attaching lighting controllers, an isolated mono (L + R) output is provided on a rear panel jack; this output is not affected by any of the output level controls, so that lighting intensity will not be changed by overall level adjustments. Separate bass and treble controls for left and right channels affect the house, booth, headphone and mono outputs. The inflection points of these controls have been carefully selected for minimum midrange coloration and good adjustment range. Additionally, two separate tape outputs are provided for making recordings, and an effects loop allows connection of equalizers, limiters, expanders or other signal processing equipment. To further customize the 1620LE Mixer for specific installations, you may select internal options to bypass the tone controls and/or connect the standard mic input so that is does not appear on the tape outputs or effects loop and is not affected by the master gain or tone controls. The Model 1620LE has been designed for long life and reliability. All input and output level controls are quiet and smooth-acting. Modular construction assures minimum down time for service – all preamplifiers, selector switches, level and balance controls are on
modular subassemblies which may be replaced in the field without soldering. Components have been selected to be over-rated to assure reliability in continuous duty service. Additionally gold-plated connectors are used throughout. For audio signal accuracy and good channel matching, tight-tolerance electronic and electro-mechanical parts have been specified.
